Welcome to CHABLIS

Founded in 2020, the Center for Healthy Aging Behaviors and Longitudinal InvestigationS (CHABLIS) advances research on how demographic, economic, and behavioral factors shape healthy aging across the life course.

Bringing together scholars from five divisions and schools at the University of Chicago and a growing national network of affiliates, CHABLIS leverages longitudinal data from observational and interventional studies to better understand the demography and economics of aging.

CHABLIS’ central hypothesis is that by connecting scholars across disciplines—such as economics, sociology, and medicine—and linking academic units and institutions focused on longitudinal studies of healthy aging, we can:

  1. Foster innovation in the demography and economics of aging through interdisciplinary collaboration, and
  2. Cuultivate the next generation of leaders in social science approaches to aging research.
